New COP27 food advice that will help blast us towards a better future

Paul Newnham is a man with his finger very much on the pulse at COP27, as he tells me about his plans to double global bean consumption by 2028.

The SDG Advocacy Hub director is in Sharm el-Sheikh launching the Beans is How initiative, in a bid to make that happen in the next five years.

“We have just launched a new initiative at COP27: Beans is How,” Paul explains. “And it’s built around the idea that all of us can take a simple action of choosing each day to do something that can make a difference for planetary health, human health and can also be affordable and accessible for all.”

The initiative’s target to “double the consumption of beans all around the world, includes peas and lentils”.

“They are good for the soil, they are good for people, so let’s all try and increase out intake,” is Paul’s rallying call.

And yes, he says he has #ACopHalfFull sense of optimism about the future, adding “we’ve got the ingredients” to make it, but to bring it all together now, world leaders must “move faster with real action”.
